Gleason's One-Hitter Pushes New Haven Past Georgian Court, 2-0
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (May 8, 2008) – Sophomore pitcher Breanne Gleason (Bristol, Conn.)pitched a one-hitter and went 2-for-3 at the plate as she led New Haven past Georgian Court, 2-0, on Thursday afternoon in game six of the NCAA Northeast Regional in Brookville, N.Y.
New Haven improves to 26-20 with the win, while Georgian Court ends its season with a record of 38-15.
Two charger home runs made the difference in the contest, as sophomore second baaseman Courtney Garland (East Meadow, N.Y.) led off the bottom of the second with a solo shot to dead center, and junior third baseman Jessica Medina (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) followed an inning later with a solo home run to left field.
Gleason shut down the high-powered Lion offense, striking out 12 in seven innings, and did not allow a hit until Stacey Ryan’s (Brick, N.J.) single in the top of the seventh broke up the no-hitter.
Junior Samantha Sasko (Groveville, N.J.) took the loss for the Lions despite giving up only four hits and striking out six.
The Chargers advance to game nine of the tournament, where they will face Bryant University, scheduled for Friday, May 9, (weather permitting) at 9 a.m.
