Christie Softy has been named to the All-Region First Team for the second time in her two-year career.
STARKVILLE, Miss. (May 10, 2008) - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association and Louisville Slugger recently announced its NCAA Division II softball all-region teams, and C.W. Post saw five  players named to the Northeast Region squad. Four Pioneers were tabbed on the First Team, the most in the Northeast region, including sophomore shortstop Christie Softy, senior pitcher Samantha Yodowitz, senior first baseman Holly Eringis, and sophomore outfielder Melissa Medina. Junior catcher Melissa Hippo was named to the All-Region Second-Team.

Softy is batting .313 on the season and is leading the team in RBI with 46 and extra-base hits, with 20. She has performed well in her first season at shortstop, posting a .946 fielding percentage with 96 assists.

Yodowitz, the team’s ace, has posted a 28-6 record so far this season, and has won every decision in the Pioneer’s post-season run. She is also one of the team’s top run producers, with a .348 batting average, 40 RBI, and a team-high eight home runs.

Eringis has had a career year, batting .366 with 26 RBI. She is currently riding a seven-game hitting streak, and has had an RBI in each of the Pioneer’s regional wins. She has 26 RBI on the season, and has four home runs, giving her 21 for her career.

Medina has utilized her speed to post a .419 batting average and a .429 on base percentage, and has a team-high 34 steals and 21 RBI out of the leadoff spot. As the team’s center fielder, she has made only on error all season.

Hippo rebounded from a slow start to post a .309 batting average with fifteen extra-base hits and 36 RBI. She moved to catcher after spending the 2007 season at first base, and has handled a pitching staff that has an ERA of 2.03, good for 17th in the nation.

Head coach Jamie Apicella's team sits at 47-14 on the season, and will play for the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship today at approximately 1 p.m., following the 11 a.m. game featuring New Haven and LeMoyne. The Pioneers will play the winner of the 11’o clock game for the Regional Championship and a berth to the NCAA Division II College World Series.
