PALMETTO BAY, Fla. (Mar. 17, 2007) - C.W. Post junior Maria Michta will get another opportunity to compete for the United States at next month's Pan American Race Walk Cup in Brazil, as the standout placed fifth Saturday afternoon at the USA Team Trials in the 20-kilometer race walk. She'll be joined at the Pan Am race by Pioneers alumna, Loretta Schuellein, who placed fourth in the trials.

The 2007 Pan American Race Walk Cup will be held in Balneário Camboriú, Brazil, April 21-22.

Michta (Nesconset, N.Y.) placed fifth with her time of 1:48:55, which was just behind Schuellein's fourth-place mark of 1:44:17. Michta owns the American junior 5k and 10k road records, and earned a bronze medal at the 2005 Pan American Junior Championships in Windsor, Ontario, with her American junior time of 49:43.85 in the 10k event. She is a biology major at C.W. Post, and is one of the top students in her class with a 4.0 grade point average.
