NEW YORK (Jan. 26, 2007) - Junior Dominique Lofaro set the school record in the women's 60-meter dash, while sophomore Avi Thomas broke his own school record in the heptathlon, as the C.W. Post indoor track and field teams competed Friday night in the Metropolitan Conference Championships at the 168th Street Armory. The men's contingent placed ninth in the meet, while the women's squad checked in with a 13th-place showing.

Lofaro finished the 60-meter dash in a time of 8.04, which was a full tenth of a second faster than Corinne Cosby's mark from one season ago. Lofaro also impressed in the long jump, leaping to a 16-10.5 mark.

A pair of freshmen, Christine Locher and Samantha Hegman, also turned in outstanding performances. Locher clocked in with an 8.13 time in the 60-meter dash, while leaping to a 16-6.25 mark in the long jump. She also ran to a 26.22 time in the 200-meter dash; both of her running performances set C.W. Post freshman records.

Hegman moved among the all-time leaders at C.W. Post in the weight throw, as she registered a mark of 37-4.5 in the meet.

Natalie Johnston and Candace Carroll both scored points in the meet for the Pioneers, placing sixth (2,055) and seventh (1,749) in the heptathlon, respectively.

Thomas broke his own school record in the heptathlon by over 400 points, and qualified for the IC4A Championships with his fifth-place score of 4,184. Freshman Tom Bethel and junior Corey Ditman placed seventh and eighth in the competition, respectively.

Freshman Joe Parks held on in the closing lap to score a clutch first-place performance in the 5,000-meter run with his time of 15:12.01, and later teamed with Tom Ferraro, Derek Petti and Obed Bienne on the seventh-place 4x800 relay squad, which ran to a season-best time of 8:12.45.

Trashaad Thomas placed fifth in the 200-meter dash with his 22.53 mark, while Joe Cornell used a 45-1.5 leap in the triple jump to place seventh.

Head coach Rich Degnan and the Pioneers are back in action at the Armory next weekend, when they compete Feb. 2-3 in the Armory Collegiate Classic.
