KINGSTON, R.I. (Jan. 20, 2007) - Junior Maria Michta qualified for the AT&T USA Indoor Track & Field Championship in the 3,000-meter race walk Saturday afternoon at Mackal Fieldhouse, highlighting the C.W. Post indoor track and field team's performances at the Sorlein Invitational, hosted by Rhode Island.
Michta completed the race in a first-place time of 14:27.62, which qualifies her for the Feb. 24-25 national meet (the world's oldest indoor track championship) in Boston, Mass.
On the men's side, sophomore Avi Thomas placed eighth in the 500-meter run (1:09.83), while senior Joe Cornell posted a college-best time of 23.93 in the 200-meter dash. Freshman Joe Parks ran the fastest 1,000-meter run of any Pioneers performer thus far in 2006-07, checking in with an 11th-place time of 2:37.41.
Head coach Rich Degnan will lead his C.W. Post squad back into action this Friday (Jan. 26), when they travel to New York City to compete in the Metropolitan Conference Championships at 1 p.m.
