The C.W. Post indoor track and field teams were in action Jan. 12-13, competing Friday at the Gotham Cup in New York and Saturday at the Yale Invitational. Among the early-season highlights was a standout performance by junior sprinter Kevin Durant, who provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships with his performance in the 60-meter dash.
Durant finished in a dead heat for first place in the 60m dash at the Gotham Cup, clocking in with a 6.81 time - which at this writing ranks in fourth place nationally. He followed up that performance with a winning time of 6.84 in the same event just 24 hours later at Yale. Automatic qualifying time for the 60-meter dash in Division II is 6.70 seconds.
Freshman standout Joe Parks placed sixth in the mile at the Gotham Cup with his time of 4:21.49, while sophomore Scott Facey qualified for the IC4A Championships with his time of 49.63.
At Yale, Facey teamed up with Andrew Hughes, Avi Thomas and Trashaad Thomas to place fifth in the 4x400 relay, in a season-best time of 3:24.88.
Head coach Rich Degnan's Pioneers are scheduled to be back in action next Saturday (Jan. 20), when the women's contingent will travel to the Manhattan Invitational, while the men's team will compete in Rhode Island's Sorlein Memorial Indoor Classic.
