Men's Indoor Track Places Second, Women Third, at CTC Relay Carnival

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Dec. 3, 2006) - The C.W. Post track and field team kicked off its 2006-07 indoor season Sunday afternoon at the Collegiate Track Conference Relay Carnival, and the Pioneers men's team won five relay titles en route to a second-place finish on the afternoon. C.W. Post's women's contingent placed third in the event.

The 4x400 relay team of Junaid Hamin-Gilliam, Kalesi Straker, Obed Biene and Andrew Hughes won their race in a time of 3:30.09, while the 4x800 squad of Sean Mahon, Derek Petti, Junior Antoine and Joe Parks broke the tape with a winning time of 8:21.84. Petti, Hughes, Biene and Parks won the distance medley relay with a 10:38.28 time, while Mahon, Antoine, Ricky Dunbar and Tom Ferraro emerged victorious in the 4x1600 relay (19:06.16). Rounding out the winning relays was the triple-jump tandem of Kevin Durant and Straker, who leaped to 13.66m and 13.00m marks, respectively, to combine for the first-place team points.

Durant and Hamin-Gilliam combined to earn C.W. Post second-place points in the 55-meter dash relay, while Max Collado and Mike Marrone placed second for the Pioneers in the 2x5000 relay.

Leading the charge for the female Pioneers were race walkers Maria Michta and Sarah LeFrancois, who combined to win their third consecutive race walk relay title at the meet. The sprint medley relay quartet of Enjole Johnson, Christine Locher, Colleena Guy and Natalie Johnston placed second with a time of 4:28.93, while the 4x1600 relay team of Kristen Sweeney, Marie Bell, Johnston and Suzanne Riggott placed third (23:43.24). Other third-place relays included the 4x200 and 4x400 teams.

Head coach Rich Degnan's Pioneers are back in action Friday afternoon (Dec. 8), when they travel to the Christmas Classic meet in Bronx, N.Y., at 2 p.m.
