 The C.W. Post men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional in Boston, Massachusetts Sunday afternoon. The Pioneer women finished the day with an overall 16th place finish out of 25 teams, while the men finished 10th out of 26 competing institutions.

The C.W. Post cross country teams both had strong performances at the East Coast Conference Championships. The men’s team finished ahead of the eight teams to claim its fourth conference title and the women were third overall. Additionally, head coach Rob Morris was voted Coach of the Year on the men’s side.

The East Coast Conference released its weekly report Tuesday afternoon, naming C.W. Post cross country freshman Christian Altamura (Seaford, N.Y.) Rookie of the Week after the Pioneers competed in the Disney Classic Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Christian Altamura (Seaford, N.Y.) took 33rd place out of a field of 205 runners to help the C.W. Post men’s cross country team to a 12th place finish out of 25 competing institutions at the Walt Disney Classic held in Orlando, Florida Saturday afternoon.

The C.W. Post Pioneers made an impressive performance for the second week in a row, as five Pioneers set new personal records at the Codfish Bowl, held at Franklin Park in Boston, Massachusetts. The Pioneer women took home a 12th place overall finish out of 23 competing institutions, while the men placed eighth overall out of 18 teams.

The C.W. Post Pioneers men’s and women’s cross country team competed at the NYIT Running of the Bears meet, held at Bethpage State Park Saturday afternoon. The Both teams made an impressive showing, as the women placed third overall out of 13 teams. The men also took home an overall third place finish out of 12 competing institutions. The meet proved to be a remarkable one, as eight Pioneers set new personal records in their events.

The East Coast Conference released its weekly cross country report, honoring two C.W. Post Pioneers as runners of the week. Graduate student Vince Giambanco (Muttontown, N.Y.) was named Men’s Runner of the Week, while senior captain Kristen Sweeney (Kennebunk, Maine) was named Women’s Runner of the Week.

Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country | 9.12
The C.W. Post Pioneers and the Molloy College Lions earned top honors, as the Pioneers hosted the C.W. Post Invitational Saturday afternoon. C.W. Post finished first overall on the men’s side, while Molloy College captured the top spot overall for the women. Eight teams competed in the race overall all for the men, while six teams competed on the women’s side.

The East Coast Conference announced the Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the 2008-09 academic year and 54 student-athletes from C.W. Post received recognition for achieving a grade point average of 3.25 or higher. In all, 628 student-athletes from all 10 member ECC institutions were announced.

The East Coast Conference released its picks for Scholar Athlete of the Year for the Fall 2008 season Friday afternoon. C.W. Post Pioneer Maria Sonnerborg (Bjarred, Sweden) earned the honor of being named 2008 Women’s Soccer Scholar Athlete of the Year, while fellow Pioneer Lucia Krskova (Prievidza, Slovakia) was picked as the 2008 Volleyball Scholar Athlete of the Year.

The C.W. Post women’s cross country team placed 12th in a field of 23 teams Sunday afternoon at the men’s and women’s NCAA Division II East Regional. Freshman Nicole Wissler (Mineola, N.Y.) was named to the All-East Region team.
